This is similar to whipped running stitch. Stitch a row of running stitch and bring your needle up close to the last stitch. Pass the needle under the stitch but above the fabric and pull the thread through. Continue to pass the needle under the stitches, alternating the direction in which you approach the stitch. For example, if you go under the first stitch from above, then you will need to go under the second stitch from below. Continue to alternate direction to the end of the row of running stitches, then take the thread through to the back of the work as close to the final stitch as possible.
